About the orchard
The Comrie Community Orchard was established on a south-facing slope at Cultybraggan Camp and has been maintained by volunteers since March 2010. More than 286 volunteers have been involved over the years — pruning, mulching, planting, and harvesting fruit that goes directly to local households, free of charge.
The orchard grows over 30 varieties of heritage apple alongside pear, plum, and damson trees. Recent additions include gages, a Mirabelle plum, Victoria plum, and several varieties grafted by group members themselves — Ribston Pippin, Jupiter, Ellisons Orange, and Howgate Wonder among them. Espalier Conference pears grow against south-facing walls, making the most of every patch of warmth.
Monthly workdays
The group meets on the first Sunday of almost every month, from 11am until 3pm. Work varies by season: pruning and mulching in winter and spring, summer maintenance, and communal harvesting in autumn. Come for the day or drop by for an hour — all are welcome. Wear clothing appropriate for all weathers and bring sturdy boots and some lunch.
Apple Day
The annual Apple Day is one of the highlights of the Comrie calendar — a community celebration of the harvest with pressing, tasting, and activities for all ages. Check the news page for upcoming dates.
Join the group
Whether you know your Cox from your Bramley or have never pruned a tree in your life, you are welcome. The orchard has only been possible because of dedicated volunteers — and the group hopes that number will keep growing. Get in touch to find out what's coming up.
