German Consul General visits Cultybraggan

13 July 2025

This week, Consul General Christiane Hullmann visited Cultybraggan Camp near Comrie – once a large WWII prisoner-of-war (POW) camp that was built to hold up to 4,000 German POWs. POWs at Cultybraggan were generally treated well and those who were not deeply committed Nazis were sent to work on local farms. Some of these men decided after the war to stay in Scotland and became part of the local community. Many others returned over the years to visit the place where they had once been held. Today, visitors can still see a number of the original Nissen huts and learn more about the daily life in the camp in an excellent museum on site. It is thanks to the vision and dedication of the local community, especially the Comrie Development Trust , which now owns the site, that Cultybraggan has become a hub for cultural heritage, environmental sustainability and cross-cultural exchange.
